Word crashes when opening documents
I recently had a problem where Microsoft Word 2010 would crash when opening a document. I could launch Word with a blank document and save it without any problems, but try and open it again and crash!
The problem turned out to be caused by the Send to Bluetooth add-in and the solution was to remove the add-in.
Removing Word Add-in fails
Unfortunately trying to remove the Send to Bluetooth add-in in the normal way, Word – File menu – Add-ins – Manage, resulted in the following error.
This add-in is installed for all users on this computor, and can only be connected or disconnected by an administrator
This error message is more than a little confusing as I was already logged in with an Administrator account.
Run Word as Administrator in order to remove Add-in
What the error message failed to tell me was that you need to run Word as Administrator before removing an Add-in. To do this, open Windows Explorer or My Computer and browse to the Word executable file, you should find it here…
c:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 14\winword.exe
Then right click winword.exe and select Run as Administrator from the context menu. Now go back to Word – File menu – Add-ins – Manage and you should be able to remove the add-in.
